Dave joined Brown Turner as a Trainee Solicitor in 1973 and has been associated with the company for his entire career in the law qualifying as a Solicitor in 1975. He acquired Brown Turner Compton Carr, the Southport practice, in 1986 when the London limb of the practice demerged.
In 2008, recognising that there were likely to be changes to the structure of the Court system and that there was a risk of the closure of the Southport Courts (which subsequently occurred), it was decided to merge with Malcolm J Ross, a longstanding Liverpool firm, which gave us an even greater presence in Liverpool. The merger created Brown Turner Ross and Dave was the Managing Director of the firm until December 2016.
Initially Dave worked as a Criminal Defence Lawyer and was involved in a number of high profile cases including the defence of the former Directors of a Savings Investment Bank.
He now specialises in
- commercial work and
- high value divorce work
- representing clients charged with driving offences
In 2013 Dave was heavily involved in helping to move forward a London company that specialises in reviewing and assisting Divorce Clients in a reconsideration of their divorce settlements. This saw him achieve a significant Damages award on behalf of a woman whose original Lawyer had failed to properly appreciate the financial impact on a woman who does not receive a proper share of her husband’s pension.
In addition with the help of Counsel, he won two significant Appeals against first time Judgments in Divorce matters on behalf of husbands who he felt had been particularly badly treated by the Judges in the Lower Court. The resultant Appeals went against the tide of judicial dislike of Appeals in financial matters, made more difficult by the very restricted nature of Appeal grounds which seek to dissuade those affected by poor decisions from obtaining a Higher Court reconsideration.
He was also involved in one multi million pound business sale with another one pending for 2014.
